Yes it should be re-introduced. Our society is not yet ready...
There should be a minimum syllabus for every standard( e.g. reading writing the alphabets, two letters words, counting up to 9, etc for class I) and a student should be given time to complete it with all the support. S/he may or may not be able to learn more than that in the time frame. When s/he completes one task s/he should be given the next task. no pass-fail, no detention,no ranking,and No up-gradation of a student with out building his/her minimum ability. I heard there was a time when people praised one student for completing a one book or two books at a young age. I mean to say if you can complete learning your lessons of class one you will be offered curriculum from class two (even if it is in the middle of the year) and you if you need time to complete the minimum syllabus for class one you will be given that be it 1.5 year or two years. Education should be individualized. ifrastructure should be developed for that.
